You can always divide people into two groups: left-handed vs right-handed, tall vs short, near-sighted vs far-sighted, etc. Some of those groups might have a fuzzy, arbitrary dividing line (e.g., tall vs. short) while others are usually quite stark (e.g., left-handed vs right-handed). One of the stark divisions that comes up at this time of year is those who detest candy corn vs. those who love it.
Although the loudness of a protest does not prove anything, the majority of folks who dislike candy corn must be rather large, given the decibel level of their complaints. At this point we could invite you to register your vote one way or the other, but that is not the point of this post. In a spirit of amused helpfulness, we would like to suggest how to improve candy corn with one or two simple additives.
First, try mixing candy corn with a roughly equal volume of salted peanuts. The mix tastes a lot like a PayDay® candy bar or a Salted Nut Roll®, if you have any experience with those brands. Of course, while most people seem to pick at their candy corn and eat it one piece at a time, for this to work you have to put enough in your mouth to be able to benefit from the 50/50 mix. Try it, and if you like a PayDay or Salted Nut Roll, you will probably like this mix.
The second way to improve candy corn is to mix equal parts of candy corn, salted peanuts, and chocolate chips. Either milk chocolate or dark chocolate will do, but milk chocolate might give a better result. The mix tastes much like a Snickers® candy bar, which is one of our favorites. Again, though, you need to put enough of the mix in your mouth that you can taste all three ingredients at once.
If you are the kind of person who eats M&Ms® one piece at a time, these ideas won’t work for you. On the other hand, if you throw M&Ms into your mouth by the (small?) handful, then this mix is for you. Enjoy!
Perfect, except for THROUGH in place of THROW right at the end. Very good article!

Good catch; I fixed it. Thanks!

I’ve never thought to mix anything with my candy corn and now I’m intrigued! I’m definitely a one candy corn at a time, eating the white tip first, then proceeding downward. Thanks for the suggestions!

Jesse, first, I have to say you have too much time on your hands. Second, I for one am a candy corn connoisseur. Brachs makes the one and only true candy corn. A others are knock offs. I also eat them one at a time and bite off each color one at a time and savor the flavor of each. Oh sure, I have been known to pop the whole corn in my mouth to enjoy the combined flavor as well. Thanks for highlighting the most traditional Halloween candy in the world!

Wish I had more time on my hands! I try to write something every day to sharpen my writing skills or to capture ideas before they drift away. Sometimes a blog post, sometimes a long email to share some thoughts. And sometimes the pieces coalesce into a book, or at least part of a book!

I like a couple pieces of candy corn (or the similarly-flavored solid pumpkins) for nostalgia’s sake; otherwise, blech. Give me a 100 Grand!
