What’s Your Second Language?

Previous posts mapped the most common languages spoken in different parts of the world. We also asked which language you would like to learn if you decided to invest the time and effort. However, a lot of people have already made that investment, some by choice and some because their education required it. So what are the most common second languages in various parts of the world?

Regional maps in the article liked above show the most common second language in many different countries. Some of them may not be much of a surprise: Spanish is the most common second language in the United States, French in Canada, etc. But Tatar in Russia? Turkish in Germany and Austria? Mandarin in Australia? Who would have guessed?
