A Shameless Book Plug

Christians recognize that Jesus is Lord. As our Lord, Jesus receives our highest allegiance. When questions arose about whether His disciples should pay taxes to the government, Jesus answered, “render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s; and to God the things that are God’s (Matthew 22:21). God is over all, and Jesus certainly has authority to direct us to give the state its due. However, sometimes a government, a political or cultural movement, or another religion demands an allegiance higher than our allegiance to God. Those demanding priority over God may decide to slander, persecute, or oppress Christians. What options might a Christian have in those situations? I wrote “Standing Firm: A Christian Response to Hostility and Persecution” to provide a reasoned, scriptural basis to start thinking through how to respond when hostility comes. The book came out almost six years ago, but it may be even more relevant today.
